Joe Cook-Green joins Sam Smith at Texas Wesleyan

Congratulations to Joe Cook-Green who has committed to study and play at Texas Wesleyan University starting this August. He will join fellow Mainland Eagles Alumni Sam Smith who will be heading into his second season at Texas Wesleyan who are one on the best NAIA programs in the nation.

Cook-Green attended Otago Boys High School and Cashmere High School while also playing for the Canterbury Rams. Then Joe headed over to the states for 2 years attending junior college. He will now head to Texas Wesleyan as a junior and have 2 seasons to play under Coach Brennan Singleton.

Coach Singleton has served six seasons as head coach at Texas Wesleyan after serving as an assistant coach and later as an associate head coach for ten years. Shingleton holds an overall record of 125-69 (.644).  In the 2016-17 season, he led the Rams to their second NAIA Division I National Championship and was named NAIA National Coach of the Year.

Texas Wesleyan is located in Fort worth, Texas. They compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference which also has Wayland Baptist University competing in it where Tom Crutchley another Mainland Eagles alumni attends.

The Mainland Eagles Academy was established in 2014 by the Canterbury Regional Basketball Foundation (sister organisation of the Canterbury Rams) to support male and female players throughout the South Island to pursue their dream of pursuing tertiary education & basketball excellence both in New Zealand and the United States.
