Our Vision, Values & Principles

The Mainland Eagles Academy aims to support young people in utilising basketball as a vehicle for academic, leadership and life experiences. As a result, basketball facilitates the growth of well rounded, educated, service focused individuals who contribute to society in a positive manner.

ATHLETE CENTRED HOLISTIC APPROACH– The athlete is the centre of the development plan with the support of whanau, coaches and the performance service team, using a basketball environment to develop mental, physical, spiritual and whanau health utilising the Te Whare Tapa Wha frame work.

TE PĀ O TE POUĀKAI – We believe it takes a village to raise a young person. Through collaboration with the people in the rangatahi’s circle of influence, we are able to best support them. This includes working together with key partners such as the national body, associations, clubs and schools.

AKO – We value learning from each other, including athlete and coach reciprocal learning. We understand the learner and the whanau cannot be separated and are connected throughout the learning process.  We honour and learn from past athletes and coaches, we value the present andwe prepare for the future.

GROWTH – Basketball is utilised to open up opportunities for rangatahi such as academic, leadership and life experiences leading to character and social growth over the longer term. We facilitate the growth of high performance behaviours in athletes through competitive training against the best athletes in their region and throughout the South Island.
