Lauryn Hippolite signs NCAA college schlorship

 

Mainland Eagles Academy Member Lauryn Hippolite Sign’s USA NCAA College Scholarship joining Quinn Clinton & Angus McWilliam

 

The Academy is proud to announce Lauryn Hippolite (by way of Nelson) signing with NCAA Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Canterbury Rams captain Marques Whippy played at BYU Hawaii which is in the same conference as Hawaii Pacific.  Lauryn joins a long line of Mainland Eagles Academy females who have received US college scholarships including Mary Goulding (Fordham University), Tessa Morrison (Southern New Hampshire), Tessa Boagni (Cal State Northridge), Brittany Richards by way of Otago (Alaska Fairbanks) & Zoe Richards by way of Otago (Eckerd College).  Within the first 3 years of the Mainland Eagles Academy being established by the Canterbury Regional Basketball Foundation (sole beneficiary limited partner of the Canterbury Rams) has already seen 22 players supported to receive academic & basketball scholarships at USA Universities.

Lauryn will be joining Angus McWilliam who signed with Texas Christian University and Quinn Clinton with St Mary’s College of California who have all signed in the NCAA early signing period. “These 3 signings support why the Mainland Eagles Academy was set up by the Canterbury Rams in the first place, to provide high performance training and US college guidance & placement to up and coming players,” stated Mainland Eagles Academy and Canterbury Rams head coach Mark Dickel.

Lauryn Hippolite will be beginning at Hawaii Pacific University in August, 2018 and will be majoring in Psychology.  Lauryn is from Nelson and played at Waimea College under former Tall Black Ed Book who was team mates of Mark Dickel on the 2002 Tall Blacks team who finish 4th at the FIBA World Championships.  Lauryn was a member of the Tasman and Nelson Basketball Association rep teams.  Lauryn moved to Christchurch to go to Middleton Grange School playing for coach Helen Williamson in 2017 and was a member of the Canterbury Wildcats WBC Championship winning team playing for Lori McDaniel.  Lauryn was also a member of the New Zealand team which competed in the FIBA U18 Oceania Championship this year.  Hawaii Pacific plays in the PAC West Conference which predominately plays California Universities.  The head coach is Reid Takatsuka and has a coaching record of 80-32 (0.714%) which is one of the highest winning %’s in the PAC West Conference.  Hawaii Pacific made the NCAA DII Quarterfinals during the 2014-2015 season.    Lauryn will be joining fellow kiwi Ella Fotu at Hawaii Pacific University.

Angus McWilliam will be signing on to play with Steven Adams former college coach Jamie Dixon at Texas Christian University (TCU).  Angus will major in Combined Sciences with the goal of studying towards a Veterinary Science degree.  Angus has played his school basketball for coach Tim Bennetts at Middleton Grange School and most recently played with Quinn Clinton and Toby Gillooly (St Thomas University, Minnesota) at the U19 World Championships.  Angus is currently the deputy head boy at Middleton Grange School.  TCU plays in the Big 12 conference which is considered to be one of the top college basketball conferences in the USA.

Quinn Clinton will be signing with St Mary’s College of California.  Quinn will be majoring in Geography.  St Mary’s has produced great Australian players who are currently playing in the NBA including Patty Mills and Matthew Dellavedova.  Quinn spent this past year with the Mainland Eagles Academy and was a Canterbury Rams development player after playing for Christchurch Boys High School coach Glenn Lang.  Quinn was the captain of the U19 New Zealand team who beat Australia for the first time at the U19 FIBA Oceania Qualifiers.
