Big Win for Coaches at 2025 South Island Residential Coaches Workshop

Over the past few days, we welcomed upwards of 60 athletes and 50 coaches to Christchurch for this year’s Mainland Eagles Summer Camp & South Island Residential Coaches Workshop!

At the South Island Residential Coaches Workshop, coaches undertook four days of learning & applied coach development sessions led by Basketball New Zealand Coach Developers Lori McDaniel, Garratt Williamson, and Tom Hughes. Alongside participating in discussions and observations with On-Court Head Coaches Quinn Clinton, Judd Flavell and Mike Fitchett, workshop coaches were able to observe the game preparation Melbourne United vs NZ Breakers and Mainland Pouākai vs Tokomanawa Queens, as well as undertake live scouting activities and break down game film with Dean Vickerman (Melbourne United), Daniel Sokolovsky (NZ Breakers), Judd Flavell (Canterbury Rams), and Paul Flynn (Mainland Pouākai).

“I enjoyed the discussions we had as coaches throughout the workshop including the opportunity to discuss coaching development with the on-court lead coaches Quinn Clinton & Judd Flavell. I have built coaching relationships with other coaches throughout the South Island which will add to my coaching supporting network throughout my future seasons of coaching.”

– Jordana Falconer, Workshop Coach

For our invited South Island athletes, the 2025 Summer Camp included combine testing of physiological data, film sessions previewing concepts, and on-court sessions delivered by a collection of experienced coaches.

This year also featured a variety of off-court education sessions from industry professionals, including nutritional education (Conrad Goodhew), mindset training (Mikhaela Cann, Assist Athlete Services), and information on US pathways and NCAA academic qualification.

The 2025 Mainland Eagles Camp and South Island Residential Coaches Workshop was made possible thanks to the support R+B Build & Basketball New Zealand.
