On behalf of the Mainland Eagles Academy, we’d like to invite you to participate in the
upcoming “Mainland Eagles Academy Summer Camp”.
A small group of athletes from throughout the South Island have been selected for this exciting camp, after consultation with BBNZ staff, national program coaches, association & School coaches. The Summer Camp brings our 2025 Academy year to a conclusion. The camp selection process is challenging with a limited number of player spots available as well as having a small reserve list for the camp. Please let us know if you are unavailable for the camp asap so we are able to extend the invitation towards a reserve.
The camp will be held in Christchurch at the MainPower Stadium in North Canterbury (a detailed schedule will be provided in the next camp communications).
o Camp Commences: Friday, 5th December, 4:30pm (Christchurch Based Athletes)
o Camp Concludes: Monday 8th December 1.00pm
o Venue: Christ’s College, Rolleston Ave (Friday) MainPower Stadium, 298 Coldstream Road (Sat, Sun & Mon)

CAMP FOCUS AREAS
The camp will be led by Quinn Clinton & Mike Fitchett. Quinn leads the Eagles Christchurch Hub and is the Canterbury Rams Head Coach. Mike Fitchett leads the Eagles Tasman pod and is the current Nelson Giants Head Coach & Tall Blacks Assistant Coach. The camp will be delivered with a “Holistic Athlete Development” approach. Athletes will be exposed to a variety of concepts and topics to develop skills for both on and off the basketball court. Listed below are some specific focus areas for the camp (for the full Mainland Eagles Curriculum visit https://mainlandeagles.com/our-curriculum/)
CAMP DETAILS
Athlete Apparel:
Official Mainland Eagles Apparel is required for all sessions during the camp. Any athlete without Mainland Eagles apparel will be required to purchase the ME Apparel Pack (includes reversible training singlet, shorts, and t-shirt). The cost for the Player Pack is $185.00. Sizing can be completed during the online registration process.
School & NCEA Exams:
We understand that NCEA exams for athletes in Years 11-13 and school classes for athletes in Year 10 may impact your availability to attend the Monday portion of the camp. We are very understanding of this, and our expectations are that school/exams come first and you attend to these schooling commitments. You will still be able to attend the Saturday and Sunday of camp. Please let us know if you will be unavailable for parts of the camp due to schooling commitments.
Accommodation (South Island travelling athletes):
During the registration process you will be asked if you require assistance for accommodation. Accommodation will include adult oversight and transport to and from camp.
Financial Assistance & Payment Plans:
While the event has been heavily subsidized by the CRBF we understand costs can be a prohibitor for families. We want to work with families to ensure that athletes can still benefit from attending the camp so please contact Faith Harrison for more support around finances payments@crbf.org.nz
2026 Course Selections
For those of you who are returning to School in 2026 you will be going through the process of course selection. If you are interested in keeping the US College pathway open the key steps are:
- Completing NZQA Level 3 by end of Year 13
- Taking “core classes” for Year 9 – 13. Generally a minimum of 4 core classes per year is suitable. And core classes include subject areas in the fields of English, Maths, Science & Social Science.
- The higher the students grades, the greater range of Universities that will accept the student meaning more colleges to choose from during the college selection process.
For specific questions or guidance please contact Caleb Harrison, gm@crbf.org.nz.
Coaches Workshop
During this camp the South Island Residential Coaches Workshop will occur for the sixth year. Coaches from all around the South Island will participate in a coach’s camp. This is a great initiative supported by Basketball New Zealand and the South Island associations. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to helping you develop towards your full potential.
